Viewing our Website

We recommend using Internet Explorer 8 or above or Google Chrome to view our website. If you are using a small computer or laptop in particular please use Internet explorer rather than Firefox, in order to ensure maximum view of content.

Downloading documents
GMVSS use Microsoft Office 2007 for our word processing, presentations, spreadsheets and desk top publishing documents. We save all our documents as Word 97-2003 document so that it is fully compatible with earlier versions.

If you are using software that is earlier than 2003 and are unable to read our online Microsoft documents, please go to: to see a full set of Microsoft viewers and converters.

Alternatively, you may wish to install Open Office.  This is the leading open-source office software suite for word processing, spreadsheets, presentations, graphics, databases and more. It is available in many languages and works on all common computers. It stores all your data in an international open standard format and can also read and write files from other common office software packages. It can be downloaded and used completely free of charge for any purpose.  More info at

Please note that in the case of the GMVSS factsheets please check your individual computer and printer settings to ensure that you can view or print up to the margins.  When viewing these factsheets through Open Office, some of the formatting may be disrupted, though you should still be able to view all the content.  If you are experiencing any further problems, please get in touch.
