SMALL grants and individual support make a BIG difference to local groups in Trafford
Voluntary Community Action Trafford (VCAT)

The Trafford Malayalee Association was set up, established and run entirely by a group of volunteer migrant workers. The Association provides valuable social opportunities, helps maintain traditional cultural and religious practices, and helps those in the Malayalee community who might otherwise be very isolated from wider society.

The group had been managing aptly and planning well for the future, but they needed some support to take things forward. Maya Sharma, a development worker at VCAT, worked with the group to help them:

  • Improve their budgeting and prioritise their funding needs
  • Develop and implement a Child Protection Policy
  • Find the funding that they needed, and
  • Secure a grant of £4000

As a result, the group have been able to run a stream of cultural and religious events for the coming year and to develop their children and young people's physical and cultural well being.

"We gained competency, confidence, ability... Now we have our own website and had a great community
gathering.... we give our sincere thanks to VCAT" Trafford Malayalee Association
